Camp Cope - Done

| Keith
It was the hardest ground that I had ever walked on
And just like everybody I kept on walking on
There was a man in the park and he was lying down
Oh, he could have been dead
Oh, he could have been dead
But just like everybody I kept on walking on
Pretend not to notice the body on the lawn
I could have gone that way I had gone
And just like everybody he could've kept on walking on
Walking on
He could have kept on walking on
And I thought to myself ‘hey there was probably something I should have done'

You might notice if you're paying close attention, that there are a preponderance of Austrailian artists showing up here. That's not at all intentional, I swear. It's got nothing to do with my semi-frequent trips to Sydney, it's just a solid coincidence. And a good one when you consider today's Most Important Song.

"Done" from Melbourne's Camp Cope blends sharp vocals & lyrics, a killer bassline, and some catchy indie guitar notes into something instantly charming. And similar in vein to other recent TMIS artists like Waxahatchee and Slingshot Dakota. You'll find more of the same on their self-titled debut. Good stuff. "Lost (Season One)" is especially rad.

Jimmy Eat World - Get Right

| Keith
Hands will take their place
Far from intentions made
Disguised as patience, time gets wasted
Now is for the now, so get loud
I'm, I'm destination addicted
I just gotta be some place else
Never good time, never feel the space to get it right
Get right

When I saw there was a new JEW song I thought to myself, as I often do when my older favorites release new music, "I'll give that a listen, how bad can it be?"

Well, color me pleasantly surprised. "Get Right" is a fairly straightforward rock track: short, punchy and crunchy. It's good and makes me a bit excited for their new album which drops in October.

The Dirty Nil - Zombie Eyed

| Keith
I hope it comforts you to know that I'm alone
Morphine has lied to me, saying: 'it'll be alright"
But I feel I've come to terms with myself and I belong away from your baton, babe
Me and my friends don't feel that weighed down
Work, tear, Lie, fear. I'll be right here
If I'm a dog, then you're a swine
And I'll be clean when you fly

I'm back from Sydney and feeling pretty damn rested. This, after being under the influence of jet lag for over two weeks, has me in a bit of a rockin' mood. Both in that I feel good and that I feel like rocking. Lately, I've been exploring the heavy hitting punk-ish-ness of Canada's The Dirty Nil, so let's start there. "Zombie Eyed" is a like a nice fun spill in the gravel. It might hurt a little bit, but you'll come up smiling and glad you took a spin.

Their latest release, Higher Power, is more of the same. If you dig this, give it a listen.

Crystal Castles - Vanished

| Kerri
In the darkness a killer awaits
To kill a life and the lies you make
You do another so this death can live
Just keep on dancing to the movie you're in
(I'm not cruel)
The smell of your sweat just lures me in
Your heartbeat does sing to me
Running feet through my blood
My ghost inside you, soon will be

A relatively unknown song (Sex City by Van She) remixed by Crystal Castles, with their Atari-fied keyboard and dropped lyrics, make this awesomely emo track from 2008 a Most Important Song. Crystal Castles fourth album, the first with replacement singer Edith Frances, dropped a couple days ago. I've only had time for a cursory listen, but so far so good.

St. Lucia - All Eyes on You

| Kerri
I will never take back
The words that I said then
I will always come back to you
Even in the meantime
I will always stand by
A mirror on the shelf
Call you in the nighttime
Call you in the daytime
Can't fess up to you

'Cause I hope
We will never have to take back
What we said in the night
I hope that I will always have
All eyes on you
Know that I will take what I can
When you are there standing by
Soft, spoken in the dead of night
All eyes on you

Another Brooklyn-based artist, St. Lucia (Jean-Philip Grobler) is actually far more exotic (than Jersey boys Real Estate), growing up in South Africa and arriving in NY via England. I can't wait to dance to his set at ACL in about 6 weeks, but I picked this as today's Most Important Song in homage to my kids starting at a new school today. Ugh, that feeling of all eyes on you, hoping to make friends but not wanting to make a misstep. Not really what the lyrics are about but there ya go, any excuse to play a favorite.
