To All The Ones That I Love by Press Club is one of my favorite albums of the year. They’re from Melbourne (lots of Aussie music in my rotation this year) and have been around for a while, with this being their fourth full length. It’s great, straight-ahead, approachable rock with catchy hooks and a lot of heart. Tightrope is one many good tracks on their lates, and, to me, it’s like a mashup of Pat Benatar, The Hold Steady, Cheap Trick and New Order. Something like that. It’s great.

How fun is it to re-discover an old favorite? If my re-discovery of Scottish rockers Idlewild, it’s very, very fun. I’m not actually sure how or why I lost track of them. They were in very heavy rotation for me for a long time in the 2000’s and listening to them today, it was tough picking a song to share. I ended up choosing “You Held the World in Your Arms” off The Remote Part, but could have easily gone with “El Capitan”, “Love Steals Us from Loneliness”, “A Modern Way of Letting Go”, “Little Discourage” or any number of other tracks. It seems they’ve got a new album out as well, will have to give that a look.
Nobody was more surprised than I that this dancy-Blondie sound was what Mitski picked for her next big release after the personal-angsty-volatile hit album Puberty 2 (including one of my top fave songs that year, “Your Best American Girl”) but add to that surprise, delight. I love it like nobody’s business.
