Wye Oak - Spiral

| Keith
Thoughts becoming her
Mean on, let it
When our lips come together
I come over
Wake up notices you made it
Beauty, baby
When our lips come together
I get, older

If you're lucky, you might already know Wye Oak, perhaps from their outstanding 2011 album and single "Civilian". If you're not lucky, he's your opportunity to win. "Spiral" one of two terrific songs they put out in September will give you an idea of their sound.

Jay Reatard - Hammer I Miss You

| Keith
And every hour that passes
While I'm living in the dark
Reminds me when we saw the boys
Bending at the knees
Hammer
I miss you

It had been a little while since I'd listened to Jay Reatard, but last night, at the Japandroids / Cloud Nothing's show I heard "Hammer I Miss You" between sets. It was the second time in as many days and it's a terrific song. RIP Jay.

RIYL: Ty Segall, The Black Lips, King Tuff, Parquet Courts

Wavves, Cloud Nothings - Come Down

| Keith
Just to be something is hard enough
There's no defense, we're good enough
The world around you is barely there
There's something wrong creeping into your life
You do not notice, you do not care
There's something wrong creeping into your life

Tonight is the night! We're going to see Cloud Nothings and Japandroids! They're two of my favorite bands and I couldn't be more stoked. I thought of cueing up a song of one of their latest albums, as they're both stellar, but couldn't decide. Instead, here's one of the Wavves / Cloud Nothings collab, No Life for Me, which is also stellar.

RIYL: Japandroids, Mt. Eddy, Yuck, together PANGEA, Cymbals Eat Guitars

IDER - King Ruby

| Keith
Wild heart, dressed in jewels
She on a mission, don't you know Ruby rules
Fire up, turn it back around
We can see you rising up about the crowd, you're far away but we can hear you shout

IDER was one of the bands I discovered while listening to Iceland Airwaves playlists. Unfortunately, we didn't catch them, so I can't speak to their live show, but their music is mellow, engaging and beautiful. I've been rolling through their catalog and it's been a bit hard to choose a Most Important, so if you like "King Ruby" be sure and check out some more, it's fantastic.

RIYL: Glass Animals, Sylvan Esso, Joywave, Tame Impala

Sir Sly - &Run

| Kerri

You could be another face that I forget soon as I move along
Everybody makes mistakes; am I mistaken for the way I carry on?
You could show a little grace, but maybe things just went a bit too far
We are just who we are; no time for "what if"s and "what if not"s

Heavy as the setting sun
Oh, I'm counting all the numbers between zero and one
Happy, but a little lost
Well, I don't know what I don't know
So I'll kick my shoes off and run (yeah)
Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and run (run, we'll be running barefoot)
Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and

There's a hard edge to the indie electronic pop made by LA band Sir Sly that reminds me very much of Foster the People. They took a few years between their debut and sophomore albums, but if you hadn't heard of them before, you probably heard first single off this (2nd) album, "High" on alt radio all summer - it hovered around the number 2 spot for 19 weeks!
