Bully - Kills to Be Resistant

| Keith
When I’m around you
I try to keep my distance
‘Cause what I want with you
Is none of your business

Bully rocks and Alicia Bognanno reminds me quite a bit of Carrie Akre, who is one of my favorite rock vocalists of all time. Their new album, Losing, comes out later this month and if "Kills to Be Resistant" is any indication, it's going to be a classic.

Cut Copy - Counting Down

| Kerri
Tell you all my fears
Losing loves and fading years
But I'm still sitting on my tears
They wouldn't go to waste

No matter what you do to turn it down
Know that I want you too to have the sound
All your clocks are slowly counting down
Love will save, love will save us

Whichever weekend of ACL we choose to attend, there's always a couple bands exclusive to the other we'll have to miss. Last year it was Wombats and Atlas Genius, this year it's Mutemath, Joseph, and Cut Copy. CC's new album, Haiku from Zero, just came out last week and it's goood so even though Keith posted an early release back in July, we're doing 'em again. I'm going to hang out on the rooftop of our building and see if I can hear their set...

RIYL: Chromeo, Miami Horror, YACHT, Toro y Moi

Mutemath - Pixie Oaks

| Keith
Metaphors made up of all the kids in candy stores
Look right at her and know they've fallen short
I want to smile, but I don't have the mind
Merry-go-rounding the corners of the pixie oaks
Upon a Ferris wheel with missing bolts
I want to try, but I don't have the spine

We've had Mutemath on TMIS a few times already, but they're one of my favorites and they're playing just down the street from me today, so, why not? Let's roll them out again. Their newest album, Play Dead, was released earlier this month and it's terrific. And not as polished as I originally thought it would be. :)

RIYL: Future or Forestry, Colony HouseMinus The Bear, Midlake

Kamasi Washington - Desire

| Keith

Kamasi Washington is an improvisational artist. I hesitate to call his music "jazz", despite my initial inclination, because it seems more nuanced than that. To be honest, it's not in my wheelhouse and it's hard for me to describe.  I think that's one of the reasons why I find it so compelling.

RIYL: Esperanza Spalding, Thundercat, Critters Buggin, Medeski, Martin and Wood

Walk the Moon - One Foot

| Kerri

Not a soul up ahead and nothing behind
There's a desert in my blood and a storm in your eyes
Am I the king of nothing at all?
And you're the queen of nothing at all
But I remember the fight and I forget the pain
I got my hand in your pocket and my key in your chain
Am I the king of nothing at all?
And you're the queen of nothing at all

Oh, through the wilderness
You and I will walk into the emptiness
Oh, and my heart is a mess
Is it the only defense against the wilderness?

"All we have is each other, one foot in front of the other." Is this a love song or a fatalistic one? Well, it's definitely a WTM song - whatever the lyrics the mood is: Slightly 80s, Pumped & Ready to Dance. Someone asked me just the other day if I thought this band was going to fade into oblivion after the mega success of "Shut Up and Dance" which was a sad suggestion to me, as that's nowhere near my favorite song of theirs. So, I'm happy they have a new single and it's already doing well on the indie charts. The world needs more of this music -  supplying the feeling of being happy in the moment & having each other's back.
