Teen Girl Scientist Monthly - Blood On Yr Sundress

| Kerri

Where you going?
There's blood on your sundress
Tanned boys all staring at your necklace
Sunburnt eyes shaking off a reckless bore
Tanned boys all running in the car park
Breaking windows and tell you 'bout new start
Tell you 'bout a new taste
Come and put your fresh face forward

Here's one for your Saturday strolling - or at least for ours! Highs in the mid-80s and I'm going to be exploring Central Park for my first time ever in not-winter, I'm ready to rock! I dug this up looking for lesser-known bands out of NY to celebrate our weekend: a 6-piece rock group from Brooklyn, self-described as sounding "like Ra Ra Riot and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah making out in the bathroom." Here we gooooo!

We Were Glue - Birthday

| Kerri
I could take you walking in the park
And you would tell me secrets in the dark
That suggest that you don't know me at all
And I just smile and nod away
It really doesn't matter what you say
I'm just glad I've got you here at all
I don't want to be another one of your guys
I just want to be your one guy

Fun find - this Liverpoolian quartet that (in their own words) "writes energetic, rousing guitar music about love and gives a shit about making people have a good time." The debut single from We Were Glue was just last fall! (Bonus: video for that tune included below. Clearly bad acting ftw.) Back to this song, it's their latest release and "about the tendency to have absolutely no idea what’s actually going on in a relationship: just doing anything to please the other person and hoping that you don’t fuck up." Haha. I picked it as a Most Important for it's title - despite the lyrics in regard to forgetting your SO's birthday - I'm actually in NYC this weekend to celebrate Keith's. I would never ever forget, babe -- you are my one guy! Let's go have some good times!!

Pretty Girls Make Graves - This Is Our Emergency

| Keith
Unfulfillment is killing you
Seems like no one shares the same view
We may have never met but
It might be you who pulls me through

Formed in Seattle in 2001 and named after The Smith's song, Pretty Girls Make Graves was one of my local favorites when I lived there and I've missed them quite a bit since they broke up in 2007. The New Romance, the album from which today's Most Important comes, is a timeless classic and "This Is Our Emergency" is a song I come back to and rock often.

Nothing - Vertigo Flowers

| Keith
Watch out for those
Who dare to say
That everything
Will be okay
Watch out for those
Who want to be
Anything at all

Old folks like me might call this kind of song "easy listening" but hipsters may file it under "shoegaze". Regardless "Vertigo Flowers" is a nice, mellow track that somehow manages to fit some pretty rocking riffs right into the middle of it. Like a nice little rock and roll hump for your hump day. If you enjoy this, check out their latest, Tired Of Tomorrow, for more of the same.

Skepta - Konnichiwa

| Keith
By now you should know I hate waitin'
I got no patience
Right now man are tryna get out the matrix
Far from the agents
Tryna stay far from the devil in the red dress
Far from the pagans
Only time man are gonna see me again
Is if I share location

It's been a little while since we had any hip-hop up here, so let's fix that with "Konnichiwa" by London grime-ster Skepta. The song comes from his 2016 album of the same name. It's a fairly angsty album, and a classic capture of early 2000-style grime. Think The Streets, Dizzee Rascal and the like: grungy beats, rapid-fire vocals, quick cuts and the occasional club jam all done with a techno flair. If this wets your whistle, have a dip into his back catalog, there's a lot of hot tracks in there.

RIYL: Dizzee Rascal, The Streets, Gorillaz, Wiley
