Futureheads - Hounds of Love

| Keith
I found a fox
Caught by dogs
He let me take him in my hands
His little heart
It beats so fast
And I'm ashamed of running away
From nothing real
I just can't deal with this
But I'm still afraid to be there
Among your hounds of love
And feel your arms surround me
I've always been a coward
And never know what's good for me

It's all Kate Bush and covers over here! This past weekend Kerri and I got to talking about (and listening to) covers since she posted another Kate Bush track that also has a terrific cover song Friday. Placebo's version of "Running Up That Hill" is ace. In addition to being a terrific and original act, Placebo are pretty adept when it comes to covers. Through the course of that afternoon, we landed on the idea of doing a covers week, and here's our first song, from a band I've been longing to share on TMIS. It's probably not a coincidence that the song comes from Kate Bush and her landmark album.

Sunderland's Futureheads, who, back in 2004, released this amazing rendition of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love". The rest of that debut album is classic indie dance/rock gold as well.

The Medicine Hat - St. Cecilia

| Kerri
I remember my hometown
And this new one's a let down
When I think of how I used to be
I used to be kind
I used to be kind
Oh St. Cecelia I know you're singing the best song
But these melodies, ecstasies, can only keep it going for so long

Another great Canadian band to close out the week. This time it's experimental pop quartet The Medicine Hat, out of Ontario. Looks like they play all kinds of fun local gigs but aren't quite on the Bands In Town radar yet. Their two debut singles are right up my alley. Hat tip (pun intended) to Spotify for bringing them to my attention. Here's hoping they'll release more music soon.

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill

| Kerri

It doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...

You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

What a moving song. Released in 1985 to popular success and critical acclaim, nevertheless I always felt it was a track ahead of it's time. Fast forward about twenty years and the perfect remake came out. I've been debating for a long time, which to put on TMIS: Kate Bush or Placebo version? Went with Kate because she wrote it, and she's a legend. Bonus Placebo attached though.

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Cocoon

| Kerri
I fell straight into your arms
Like a drunk who’s been on it
All morning, and the sun’s up
And my head’s fucked
And immediately I grabbed you
You go all red like the first time
I love it when you do that
God, I love it when you do that.
I remember when we

Swapped names and I thought maybe
You’d stay and try to out-drink me
And your friends all hated it
But fuck it if they talk
Fuck it if they try and get to us
'Cause I'd rather go blind
Than let you down

I cocoon round your shoulders
When you're half cut, and you're frozen
And you've got that visible breathin'
You're dependin' on me again

We're going to see UK's CatB tonight with some friends and I figured it was a good time to add my favorite track of theirs from their debut album. (I think "Soundcheck" is still my over-all fave.) Fun facts: Did you know that the BRIT award for Best Breakthrough Act went to Van and the band last year (2016)? And did you know that the lead singer was named for Van Morrison? (His dad's pick won out over mom's "Ryan" for day-to-day life.) You probably DID already know that they stole their band name off of an infamous Sydney busker who plays music on beer bottles. Anyway, TGIF!

Temple Of The Dog - Hunger Strike

| Keith
I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouth of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already over-filled
But it's on the table.
The fire's cooking.
And they're farming babies
While the slaves are all working.
Blood is on the table.
The mouths are choking
And I'm going hungry
I'm going hungry

RIP Chris Cornell. Death came for you way, way too early.
