Only Yours - Different

| Keith
Meet me down on the streets tonight
And keep the bottle out of sight
The city looks off the rosy glass
The night feels young but it moves so fast
United
In a blinding moment
You and me we could be different
We could stay young and innocent
Your weary eyes disclose
Hight times have left you low
I've never known a love so strong
When the night time ends, will it all be gone?

Toronto band Only Yours have just released their first (self titled) EP, and already made a viral hit on the (Canadian, Spotify) chart! (Well, it's been bumped but still, good things happening!) Good things also happening for Keith and I in NYC for the weekend.

Idlehands - Glass Eyed Boys

| Keith
We were glass eyed boys
Selling dreams to the world
Laughing at the cold
We were glass eyed boys
Swimming in our graves
We were so much more
Than evil friends

Playing "follow the thread"in this case from Black Map to gP.lead me to Idlehands, an interesting indie rock outfit from San Diego. Their first album, Dena Mora, is really good but pretty standard progressive rock fare. I don't mean that to say it was boring, I listened to and loved it, but that it's not all that unique when compared to similar acts. Not so for their latest single "Glass Eyed Boys" which takes that prog. rock foundation and builds upon it with clever lyrics and subtle, sophisticated layering and arrangement. Excited to hear more from them.

gP. - Let's Not Forget Holly Golightly

| Keith
We carried you home
'cause you grew up so fast
And before you know
You'll be shakin' your ass

I don't know much...ok, next to nothing, about gP. (or Ghostparade) but they keep popping up in my Spotify stream and I'm digging "Let's Not Forget Holly Golightly" quite a bit. It's a pretty straight-ahead prog rock track with solid vocals, nice arrangements, and some (ha) fairly corny lyrics. They've got a video out and, from the looks of it, would probably be a pretty great live show.

Black Map - Run Rabbit Run

| Keith
And we enter
A new dimension
Choose your weapons carefully
Distrust the masses
Distrust your partner
Kill your spirit with violent doubt

How about we mix it up with some mid-week rock, eh? Bay area band Black Map does prog rock well. Really well, let's go with them. I loved their debut album ...And We Explode and have been eagerly awaiting new stuff. Enter "Run Rabbit Run" their new track that dropped last week. It's got all the bits that make Black Map killer; solid vocals, driving guitars. Their new album In Droves will be out in March of next year.

Flock of Dimes - Everything Is Happening Today

| Keith
So I watch the sun go up
And I watch the sun go down
And the horizon hovering
Like a missing piece
That can never be found
And as the seasons lie in wait
Like a secret you already know
Winter is behind us now
It is ahead of us, also

Flock of Dimes is the side project of Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner and it's producing some really delightful music. I first heard Flock of Dimes on the Crowded House cover collab of "Don't Dream It's Over" with Sylvan Esso, which is an interesting and groovy take on a classic hit. Flock of Dimes' album, If You See Me, Say Yes, out back in September, is whimsical, well constructed, moody and dreamy. It's also infused with the spine-tingling vocals and production that made Wye Oak's Civilian so compelling.
