Professor Murder - Free Stress Test

| Keith
You're livin' your life and you're down for the fight
and it's wrong or it's right, and you're aware of your might
You're flyin' that kite and you're shinin' that night
Yeah you're shinin' that night, yeah you're shinin' and
you try but stop it[6x]
You try, try, try

It's the weekend and the most important thing right now is dancing. Kerri and I got it started off right last night (Sobscene FTW) but I felt like it'd be cool to keep it going. Let's go back, not too far back, to 2006 with the mysterious Professor Murder. They're a really fun and funky outfit from NYC who bring great beats, a fun attitude and a creepy name to the dancefloor.  Their album, Professor Murder Rides The Subway, is a hoot and perfect for a pre-dance-dance party.

Grouplove - Welcome to Your Life

| Kerri
Mean man, promised land
Nothing but a devil's hand
Trying to keep saying I feel okay
Telling myself this now for days
Mean man, machine man
I've been nothing but a puppets hand
But nothing ever comes
Without a change

Big Mess, the highly anticipated third album from Grouplove, was released today (September 9th)! They trickled three singles out over the past couple of months, building the excitement. Grouplove (or their label, anyway) picked well, as "Welcome to Your Life", with just 6 weeks of airplay, made it onto Alt Nation's Top 18 Songs of Summer, and today it adds the gravitas of being featured on TMIS. Ha. Their Big Mess World Tour is making two stops in Austin later this fall, by popular demand.

Frenship feat. Emily Warren - Capsize

| Kerri
Your silhouette is burned in my memory
Rubble left from the moment that you left me
Oh my God, oh my God
And three words have never come easy
Cause you're more than they ever could be
Oh my God, oh my God

How could you have ever known
If I never let it show, now I just wanna know are you?

I'm fine
Drop tears in the morning
Give in to the lonely
Here it comes with no warning
I capsize, I'm first in the water
Too close to the bottom
I'm right back where I started
Said I'm fine

The Los Angeles duo Frenship released this great single in July, in front of their debut EP Truce, just out on Friday. Fun backstory: the dudes met as coworkers at Lululemon (expensive yoga/"athleisure" clothes, if somehow ya didn't know). Thanks to the internet, their after-hours musical messing around got the attention of a Norwegian pop producer. Now they're getting good press and in the middle of a huge (52 city) U.S. tour so catch 'em if you can!

Twin River - Antony

| Keith
Well I hear you say that you're ok
And I don't wanna lie to you, say that you're gone
And it feels like we took off the wrong way
And I can't find the right way to tell you I'm wrong

Vancouver band Twin River has hit on some of my favorite musical notes with "Antony". It's got gorgeous and ethereal vocals that flow beautifully over a perfectly harmonious guitar and bass combo that reminds me quite a bit of The War on Drugs. Their latest album, Passing Shade, is more of the same and well worth a listen if you're into dreamy garage pop.

Young the Giant - Nothing's Over

| Kerri
It's all in frame
Familiar faces on my wall
This town is strange
Seasons never change
Time is up
The world doesn't stop for anyone
Until the sun dissolves

We all disappear
There's nothing to fear now, my love
How does it feel?

Young the Giant are back! When "Something to Believe In" came out earlier this year, I knew that the new album would not disappoint, but I've been thrilled to dig into Home of the Strange since it's release a couple weeks ago and discover an affinity for all the tracks. Made it tough to pick a most important single, but I kept coming back to the unique instrumental breaks of "Nothing's Over" so now you get to, too. Bonus, check out the hauntingly beautiful video for "Amerika" (another contender for TMIS, gah! so hard). Really, you should do yourself a favor and find your own favorite, if you can. I can't wait to see which I will prefer performed live, when they come to ACL in October!
