Cayetana - Age of Consent (New Order)

| Keith
I saw you this morning, I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I've actually heard it, you're going to regret

In keeping with the nostalgia, but with an eye towards things a bit more new school, I present one of my favorite recent covers: "Age of Consent" by Philly band Cayetana. I'm a huge New Order fan, and their older stuff will always hold a special place in my heart. This one is a bit of a unique take, but also really solid and carries the essence of what made New Order so awesome. Yeah, and Peter Hook's awesome baseline too. :)

I've also really been digging Cayetana and they're way up on my list of bands I'd like to see live. Their usual stuff is a bit different from this cover, but if you're into catchy, well-done punk rock, you should give them a listen. Their first full length, Nervous Like Me, is terrific.

Secession - Touch (Part 3)

I can tell
By the look in your eyes
That I'm wasting your time
Don't turn your back on me

Listening to the new M83 (our Most Important from yesterday) puts me in a nostalgic mood, so I figured I'd keep it going with some lesser known artists from the 80s. First up, Secssion. I don't think they got much radio play, but they were definitely a mainstay on the dance floor. "Touch", and it's various parts were in pretty heavy rotation, but I was more partial to the lighter, slightly less danceable, "The Magician", which you can listen to via the 80's-tastic video below.

M83 - Go!

F-F-Feels like we-we-we'll be frozen, frozen
N-N-Need you to-to tell me "Je t'aime", "Je t'aime"
Full speed cause we gotta look to discover, cover
G-G-Get me j-j-just a little closer

Digging the new M83. It reminds me quite a bit of a lot of the old 80's Eurodisco stuff I loved growing up.

Band of Horses - Casual Party

| Keith
Talking television at the casual party
Here's some brand new friends to get you started off
So start it off
Since Ben got that he's a sociopath
He's only playing games don't be distracted, oh
It's all or nothing, all or nothing
So you really got something to lose
It's coming around as it did before
It's gettin' your attention but where's the door?
I can't locate it, where's it located?
I got plenty to live for

I've been enjoying the new Band of Horses tracks as they've been coming out over the last few weeks. I think my fav, so far anyway, is "Casual Party", the first single from their upcoming album. It's a bit different from their older stuff, but only a bit. This one has a nice, catchy feel to it and it reminds me a bit of Echo and The Bunnymen for some reason. Anyway, it will likely live in my heavy rotation for a while.

Lonely The Brave - Dust & Bones

| Keith
I've heard that you've blown in
but you won't kick the shit out of my dreams
until I go under
Cause I've been feeling this old higher love
that sits in the middle above
Cause I've been feeling this old higher love
that sits in the middle above
I said a line about dust and bones
From a book about the deepest tale you'll ever know

Another slightly emo track from my Discover Weekly playlist, "Dust & Bones" from UK band Lonely The Brave struck me as instantly familiar. I've listened a few times now and I can't seem to put my finger on it. I do like it, in sort of a guilty pleasure kind of way. It's very well put together, so much so that I'm surprised I'd never heard of them before. I've given their latest release Things Will Matter a couple listens as well, and while I can't say I like all of it, it's growing on me. In many ways, it's like "Dust & Bones" itself. I can't seem to put my finger on why I think it's interesting or why I like it, but I do.
