Lemuria - Wanted to Be Yours

| Keith

Let's start off 2017 with a little fun (and some more frequent posting!) with a number from Buffalo's Lemuria. It's a bit different for them, with more of an upbeat pop sound, but, fuck it, I like it. If it rubs you the wrong way, don't worry, the rest of their latest album, Recreational Hate, should be more up your alley. Tracks like "Sliver of Change" and "Christine Perfect" are fantastic and should scratch that itch for you.

Line & Circle - Vicious Folly

| Keith

Line & Circle sound a bit like a mash-up of R.E.M. and The Smiths, and their new EP, Vicious Folly, is terrific front to back. It was tough to pick a song to feature, so, if you like today's Most Important be sure and check out the full EP.

RIYL: R.E.M., The Smiths, The War on Drugs, See Through Dresses

Miya Folick - Trouble Adjusting

| Keith
I walk into an empty room
I thought there’d be at least balloons
Girl looks at me, says “Who the hell is she?”
I think I’m having trouble adjusting

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! That's kind of how I felt on my first listen to today's Most Important. Miya Folick mixes rock and pop with a honed edge that hooked me immediately. Her new EP, Give It To Me, which came out early last month, is stellar and worth a full listen through at the very least. I'm hoping she comes to town soon, would love to see her perform live.

RIYL: Sleater-Kinney, Mitski, TORRES, Le Tigre, Liz Phair

R.E.M. & Natalie Merchant - Photograph

| Keith
I found this photograph,
Underneath the broken picture glass.
Tender face of black and white,
Beautiful, a haunting sight.
Looked into an angel's smile,
Captivated all the while.
From the hair and clothes she wore,
I'd place her in between the wars.

How about a little throwback to get us back into the swing of things. R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People, while not my favorite, I prefer their older stuff, it is a terrific album and it's recently been re-released for its 25th anniversary. As part of that release, "Photograph", a song that, as far as I know, is not on the album, showed up in my release radar and, wow, I'm amazed at how well it holds up.

RIYL: XTC, 10,000 Maniacs, The Replacements, James
