Paramore - Hard Times

| Kerri

Walking around with my little rain cloud
Hanging over my head and it ain’t coming down
Where do I go? Gimme some sort of sign
Hit me with lightning, maybe I’ll come alive

Hard times, gonna make you wonder why you even try
Hard times, gonna take you down and laugh when you cry
These lives and I still don't know how I even survive
Hard times, hard times
And I gotta hit rock bottom, uh

I never considered myself a Paramore fan, but first Hayley did a duet with Lauren Mayberry for a Chvrches song, and now this new single - the first release in three years - is so delightfully 80's calypso, I say sign me up. Or, at least, let me feature this on TMIS.

RIYL: P!nk, Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne

alt-J - In Cold Blood

01110011
Crying zeros and I'm hearing 111s
Cut my somersaults and my backflip
Pool, summer, summer, pool, pool summer
Kiss me
Hair the way the sun really wants it to be
Whiskey soda, please, your G&T is empty
Chairs, inflatables have sunk to the bottom
Pool, summer, summer, pool, pool summer
Kiss me

(Now you dive in)
Callie, let's dive, dive down
To the pool's bottom where we belong
Callie, we're sinking like a bleeding stone
All above crowd around so fucking loud

I first came across this trio from Leeds by seeing them perform on the big stage, second to the night's closer, at ACL a couple years ago. I realize that makes me less than hip, but I've been making up for that lack of alternative music knowledge with a vengeance since then - as this blog fairly proves. Anyway, they put on an impressive show then, and I'm really liking the new songs they've released now (this and "3WW") prior to the full album coming in June.

Loose Tooth - Garlic Soup

remain totally in control of the things you spew
releasing totally unconsciously
feel the shame you spew

recently i swam in a river

i saved it for just this occasion

allow me to repeat
i was sent to relay the message
and the message is this
i was to relay this message
allow me to repeat

Loose Tooth is a garage outfit from Philly, and their latest release Big Day is a lot of fun. It's catchy in a bit of a challenging way that's really satisfying. They remind me a lot of early Built To Spill, and I think that's saying something--There's Nothing Wrong with Love is one of my all-time favorite albums. It was a bit hard to choose a song to share with y'all, so check out "Garlic Soup" and if you like it, give the full album a spin.

Coheed and Cambria - Devil in Jersey City

Kerri and I are going to see Coheed and Cambria (with The Dear Hunter!) at Stubbs tonight and I'm stoked. They're one of my guilty pleasures and I've been a fan since the beginning. What's more, I generally enjoy most of what they have put out over the years. For today's MIS we're going back to their first album and one of their more straightforward cuts.

RIYL: Circa Survive, At The Drive-In, The Mars Volta, The Fall of Troy, The Dear Hunter

Weezer - Feels Like Summer

| Kerri

Climbing up the tower
Just a boy and his computer
I'm still in my bathrobe
Hiding in the shadows
I'm not used to losing
Bye, bye, sugar blue eyes
Go home with the angels
Thank you for being so kind

I'm holding on and I don't want to let you go

Yeah it feels like summer
Yeah it feels like summer to me
Yeah it feels like summer
Yeah it feels like summer to me
And she was a lover to me, to me, to me, to me

Yeah, it does feel like summer here in Austin: occasionally stormy, but temps hovering between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit. And yeah, summer doesn't always mean happy. The heat gets oppressive, and ya know, shit happens. I love upbeat Weezer songs, but for those who prefer the darker Weezer (think: Pinkerton - and I love that, too) your wishes are soon to be granted. The band announced recently they have begun work on their Black Album, and added "It's about to get real." Although I'm curious what that means for this new single... is it a one off? It's joyful da-da-da-da's seem like they belong on last year's White Album. And then again, can we take the men of Weezer seriously? Exhibit A: their Ultimate Summer Jams playlist on Spotify. Regardless, I'm excited to see them (my first time) at Boston Calling late next month!

RIYL: Jimmy Eat World, Cake, Death Cab for Cutie, Beck
