Bloods - Bring My Walls Down

| Keith
Completely and unwillingly
You liquefy
The hardest parts of me
And my walls come down

This cut from Austrailian three piece Bloods has me thinking of Sydney summer, to which Kerri and I will be winging towards in just about a month. It's also a great power pop track perfect for a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise - American Shoes

| Kerri

I love you like the kids love throwing bottles of the bridge
And breaking in to trade your fix for American shoes
For American shoes, I've been dying to lie awake in a room for two
I'll come back, I'll come back for you my love

But love is a bird that you kept in your coat, warm until it died in the dark
And death is the love of what hurts you the most
So you drink your day away till you're warm as paradise

I'm not hurt I'm broken, but I called to say I'm fine
And I heard you had another love, but I'd love you to think I don't mind
The baby in your arms aint mine, but I made believe as though it was
And I didn't mean to call this late but I think I'm in love
With the thought of us

Springing from the Appalachian mountain town of Boone, North Carolina, RKS is refreshing as the local moonshine. Sorry 'bout the clichéd trope. Anyway, I find them to be both melodic and sharp witted. Happy to hear they're working on releasing new music this year.

RIYL: Day Wave, Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs

Communist Daughter - Roll a Stone

| Keith
Before we start
I started to roll a stone
To break your heart
And make heartbreak your home

I don't know much about Communist Daughter. They're named after a Neutral Milk Hotel song. They're a folksy indie rock band in the vein of what I call "band geek" bands like Cloud Cult and Anathallo. I've been listening to them quite a bit the last week or so and think they're pretty great.

RIYL: Cloud Cult, Anathallo, The Dear Hunter, American Wrestlers, mewithoutYou

Palma Violets - Best of Friends

| Keith
Out she's later in the distance, shouting out a warn
Out she ran too persistent, whoa, our mind is so absurd
Whoa love, whoa love
Jumping jolly to the end, I wanna be your friend
I wanna be your best friend
Don't want you to be my girl
I wanna be your best friend
Don't want you to be my
I don't want you to be my

I saw Palma Violets a couple of years back at SXSW and became best of friends with their gritty, British garage rock sound. "Best of Friends", today's Most Important, made some significant waves when it came out, and they've had a few solid follow-ups. 2015's Danger In The Club is a terrific album and single. I'm not sure what they're up to now, but my hope that we'll hear more from them soon.

LVL UP - Hidden Driver

| Keith
She broke right through the mess he made
Shoved an apple in his face
And impaled him with a long and gnarly stake
And I give thanks for it everyday
But I still think of god in the same way:
As the moment in my dreams
When I'm fading away
And what takes my place
Is a radial gradient of cops and priests
And mounting things
Fucking everything
Making rules for a body within me

The first time I heard New York garage outfit LVL UP I was reminded of the first time I heard Built To Spill. I mean the old, kind of rough-but-awesome stuff, not the more polished (still awesome) less-old stuff. "Hidden Driver" is the kind of song, like Built To Spill's "Car" that catches you a bit unaware each time you hear it, exciting you as it worms its way in through your ears. Their latest release, Return To Love, is an intelligent, complicated fuzzy, lo-fi treat. Check it out.
