Sports - Nowhere to Be

| Keith
so what if it’s not working, I'm a jerk, and you’re just hanging out?
we aren’t getting any younger
and now that my head’s aching, crying’s taken all my pride away
if I listen close I'll hear you breathe
nowhere to be and I wish you could see me now
I've got time
you’re always on my mind
seventeen didn’t mean a thing to me
I've got time
you’re always on my mind

I've spent a decent amount of the last couple days listening to Ohio quintet Sports. And it's been good. If I was making a mixtape for Kerri, you'd bet this song would be on it.

Wintersleep - Santa Fe

| Keith
So baby give me one more night
I will release you -- give me some time

I've been thinking about posting something from Wintersleep's latest album, The Great Detachment, for a while now. I decided upon "Santa Fe" as I feel like it captures the breadth of what they do well; a sort of understated and uplifting folksy rock with surprising and diverse twists. In this case, it's a fairly rockin' anthem with some killer sonic style.

For something a bit more straight-forward check out the video for the hit that first drew me to them, "Weighty Ghost".

Well how objective can I be?

Maximo Park's debut album A Certain Trigger is one of my all time favorites and any song from it could be considered a Most Important. It's a classic. I'm excited at the possibility for more music from them soon. For now, we're closing out a long, fun weekend with "Apply Some Pressure". Enjoy!

Idlehands - Glass Eyed Boys

| Keith
We were glass eyed boys
Selling dreams to the world
Laughing at the cold
We were glass eyed boys
Swimming in our graves
We were so much more
Than evil friends

Playing "follow the thread"in this case from Black Map to gP.lead me to Idlehands, an interesting indie rock outfit from San Diego. Their first album, Dena Mora, is really good but pretty standard progressive rock fare. I don't mean that to say it was boring, I listened to and loved it, but that it's not all that unique when compared to similar acts. Not so for their latest single "Glass Eyed Boys" which takes that prog. rock foundation and builds upon it with clever lyrics and subtle, sophisticated layering and arrangement. Excited to hear more from them.

gP. - Let's Not Forget Holly Golightly

| Keith
We carried you home
'cause you grew up so fast
And before you know
You'll be shakin' your ass

I don't know much...ok, next to nothing, about gP. (or Ghostparade) but they keep popping up in my Spotify stream and I'm digging "Let's Not Forget Holly Golightly" quite a bit. It's a pretty straight-ahead prog rock track with solid vocals, nice arrangements, and some (ha) fairly corny lyrics. They've got a video out and, from the looks of it, would probably be a pretty great live show.
