The Moth & The Flame - Wishing Well

| Kerri
Everyone you know
Flip their hopes to you
Wishing for a life
That you can't offer them

Couldn't resist following up yesterday's song with this band. Another fav from SXSW '16, Keith and I saw The Moth & The Flame perform right after Aurora and I was blown away. Reminded me of early Imagine Dragons. And then I read about TM&TF and felt a combination of smart and stupid, as both bands (as well as Neon Trees) hail at least partially from Utah, are made up of former Mormons, and tour together. Well then.

Descendents - Victim of Me

| Keith
I don't have to run from me
Just turn away
And be satisfied
And I'm not going to fight with me
Just turn away
And stop, wandering, aimlessly

New Descendents? What!?!? I'm in. "Victim of Me" didn't catch me on first listen, and I still think it's lacking... maybe some, haha, immaturity? Irreverence? It did feel cooler on second listen and it's still clearly Descendents, one of my favorite punk bands ever. AND, I think it's been about 10 years since we heard anything new from them, so that's totally All.

Cayetana - Age of Consent (New Order)

| Keith
I saw you this morning, I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I've actually heard it, you're going to regret

In keeping with the nostalgia, but with an eye towards things a bit more new school, I present one of my favorite recent covers: "Age of Consent" by Philly band Cayetana. I'm a huge New Order fan, and their older stuff will always hold a special place in my heart. This one is a bit of a unique take, but also really solid and carries the essence of what made New Order so awesome. Yeah, and Peter Hook's awesome baseline too. :)

I've also really been digging Cayetana and they're way up on my list of bands I'd like to see live. Their usual stuff is a bit different from this cover, but if you're into catchy, well-done punk rock, you should give them a listen. Their first full length, Nervous Like Me, is terrific.

Lonely The Brave - Dust & Bones

| Keith
I've heard that you've blown in
but you won't kick the shit out of my dreams
until I go under
Cause I've been feeling this old higher love
that sits in the middle above
Cause I've been feeling this old higher love
that sits in the middle above
I said a line about dust and bones
From a book about the deepest tale you'll ever know

Another slightly emo track from my Discover Weekly playlist, "Dust & Bones" from UK band Lonely The Brave struck me as instantly familiar. I've listened a few times now and I can't seem to put my finger on it. I do like it, in sort of a guilty pleasure kind of way. It's very well put together, so much so that I'm surprised I'd never heard of them before. I've given their latest release Things Will Matter a couple listens as well, and while I can't say I like all of it, it's growing on me. In many ways, it's like "Dust & Bones" itself. I can't seem to put my finger on why I think it's interesting or why I like it, but I do.

Mutoid Man - Bridgeburner

| Keith
Bridges will burn
Bridges will burn
We're best friends forever
Someday I'll learn
Someday I'll learn
A.K.A. Never
Never

Moar rock! The first time I heard "Bridgeburner" I was out for a run. It instantly pumped me up. I'd been a fan of Mutiod Man for a little while, their first album Helium Head is awesome, and their latest, Bleeder, is in the same vein; straight-ahead, hard driving and slightly, awesomely quirky. Which also describes their really, really fun live shows. If you get the opportunity I highly recommend seeing them. If you're lucky they'll do their cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by The Animals.
