Gaffa Tape Sandy - Beehive

| Keith
Sweetheart
I'm in the bathroom, waiting, for you to come and apologize to me

This morning I listened to Gaffa Tape Sandy's entire Spotify catalog, which consists of two EPs and a couple of singles, and I've been impressed. This is some fun stuff. I know hardly anything about them aside from that they make terrific and eclectic garage-punk music and, I assume based on their name, that they're British. I'm also guessing they're fantastic live, so hoping for a SXSW appearance. It was tough choosing a cut to feature, so I picked their latest, "Beehive". If you like out, here are a few other standouts for you to check out: "Transylvania", "Smart Dressed Guy" and "L'appel du Vide".

Grísalappalísa - Abc

| Keith

There were quite a few in our group (ahem, Kerri) who didn't really get Grísalappalísa. I thought they were awesome and was grinning like a fool through their whole crazy set. They're a bit like an old school punk band, with flavors of ska and a lot of quirk. Here, check out this video to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Crystal Castles - Char

| Kerri
I'm afraid they're gonna find you
And there's nothing that I can do
A century of your priceless time
To commit a victimless crime
Vow to caress your rashes
Vow to punish with lashes
You can hide inside my locket
Put a leash on when they walk you
Next year say you didn't want to
Do they chastise you when you stray
Sallow skin and they can't look away
Start a collection of brine
Because all you do is cry
Wood ticks whisper to console you

We've seen and heard a bit about weekend one from ACL and that info has gotten us particularly excited about a few acts, including Canadian electropop duo Crystal Castles tomorrow afternoon. Last year I posted an oldie from the group, today's MIS is from their latest album, Amnesty.

Bad//Dreems - Feeling Remains

| Keith

My brother turned me on to Adelaide rockers Bad//Dreems and it's good stuff. They play a mostly straight-ahead rock style that feels throwback, with solid 70's or 80's punk influences, as clearly evidenced by today's Most Important, "Feeling Remains", which also has a hilarious video.

RIYL: Hot Snakes, Pissed Jeans, Wire, X

Joy Division - Wilderness

| Kerri
I traveled far and wide through many different times
What did you see there?
I saw the saints with their toys
What did you see there?
I saw all knowledge destroyed
I traveled far and wide through many different times

I mentioned on Friday that I'd been in a deep dive with Joy Division - I just read Peter Hook (the bassist)'s memoir about those years of his career. (Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division, highly recommend.)  I grew up honestly never listening to JD, besides "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Ceremony" - if you count that one. Big New Order fan but I was so young, and without internet, I didn't understand their punk roots, or take the time to look at what changed them... Well, fixed that! So, in honor of Hooky's great book, I picked not only a song off their first album, but also the track that has, as he wrote, "a bass line that every bass player dreams of." As a bonus, "Wilderness" is a cheeky, ironic (i.e. very Joy Division) choice for a Sunday morning.

RIYL: Buzzcocks, Echo & The Bunnymen, DIIVInterpol, The Boxer Rebellion
