We Were Glue - Birthday

| Kerri
I could take you walking in the park
And you would tell me secrets in the dark
That suggest that you don't know me at all
And I just smile and nod away
It really doesn't matter what you say
I'm just glad I've got you here at all
I don't want to be another one of your guys
I just want to be your one guy

Fun find - this Liverpoolian quartet that (in their own words) "writes energetic, rousing guitar music about love and gives a shit about making people have a good time." The debut single from We Were Glue was just last fall! (Bonus: video for that tune included below. Clearly bad acting ftw.) Back to this song, it's their latest release and "about the tendency to have absolutely no idea what’s actually going on in a relationship: just doing anything to please the other person and hoping that you don’t fuck up." Haha. I picked it as a Most Important for it's title - despite the lyrics in regard to forgetting your SO's birthday - I'm actually in NYC this weekend to celebrate Keith's. I would never ever forget, babe -- you are my one guy! Let's go have some good times!!

Nothing - Vertigo Flowers

| Keith
Watch out for those
Who dare to say
That everything
Will be okay
Watch out for those
Who want to be
Anything at all

Old folks like me might call this kind of song "easy listening" but hipsters may file it under "shoegaze". Regardless "Vertigo Flowers" is a nice, mellow track that somehow manages to fit some pretty rocking riffs right into the middle of it. Like a nice little rock and roll hump for your hump day. If you enjoy this, check out their latest, Tired Of Tomorrow, for more of the same.

The Royal Concept - D-D-Dance

| Kerri

In a room with both of your rivals
You would always turn it around
Once you go, once you get started
Always had that look in your eyes
You would always reach without trying
I didn't spend this time to fall out
Watch me take my chances on the weekends
You could always read me by heart

I know you're still green but I'll start you a scene that you can write about
When you come around
I know you're still green, girl
I'll start you a scene, girl

Always on the go, keep your head up now
Na na not quite that high
D-d-dance dance dance till you get it right
Always on the go, keep your head up now

Stockholm's indie-pop-rock quartet haven't given us anything new in a few years, but they've announced their rehearsals and that they'll be touring again soon (TBA) so maybe it's time to remind us of their fantastic debut single from 2011.

RIYL: Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Youngblood Hawke, Smallpools

All We Are - Animal

| Keith

How about something a little fun and funky for your Friday? Check out "Animal" the latest from Liverpool indie pop outfit All We Are. They've got a sort of Bee Gees meets Glass Animals thing going on and it's great. Their new album "Sunny Hills" is available 9th June 2017.

The video is pretty classic as well.

RIYL: Wild Beasts, Field Music, Glass Animals, Jagwar Ma

Kenna - Freetime

| Keith
Unlike the sun that shines through a crimson sky
I have built these walls so you can't get by
And it's all right, tonight; tonight, it's all right

This past weekend, while at Boston Calling, I heard "Freetime" from Kenna's spectacular 2003 album New Sacred Cow. It really brought me back. In 2003 I was just getting into blogging and, as part of a few regular series I was doing, I posted a review of "I'm Gone" off New Sacred Cow and I made a note to look that up. It's kind of broken, but you can see it here. Pretty cool that Kenna left a comment! Ah, I miss those old days when blogging was just a bunch of nerds with personal sites. I gave New Sacred Cow a listen yesterday and it still holds up. Good stuff, enjoy.
