Signals Midwest - You're Gonna Be Golden

There will be islands with nobody on them
Remnants of houses will drift away in the sea
And names carved in tree trunks and footprints left in concrete

Signals Midwest has an apt name. They're an indie rock band from Cleveland, OH and they've got that midwest emo garage rock sound down. Think Jimmy Eat World and Sunny Day Real Estate. It's pretty straightforward, just good, solid, midwest-flavored rock. From their website, and I think it's fitting, "We are a punk/indie band from Cleveland, Ohio. We've been doing this together since 2008. We will play in your kitchen or anywhere really." I bet they do a pretty solid live show too, so my kitchen is fair game.

Tigers Jaw - Guardian

I am the moment in time

Tigers Jaw have changed quite a bit over the years, going from what I'd call emo, in the vein of Saves The Day, to something much more subtle, relaxed and polished. Their latest sound is really pleasant, but not boring, and it's clearly evidenced on their newest track "Guardian". It's a nice accompaniment to a chill, no-nonsense, Saturday afternoon.

Morning Teleportation - The Code

Lyrics redacted because I couldn't make them out at all. Haha.

"The Code" has a lot going on; funky bass breakdowns, some classical guitar plucking, groovy beats, piping horns, dramatic pauses, ethereal vocals and a catchy hook. Before you doubt, however, it's very nicely blended and works really well. Listening to some of Morning Teleportation's (great name, BTW) older stuff reveals more, maybe too much, heh, eclectic craziness. I'll be keeping an eye on them and their upcoming release Salivating for Symbiosis.

Junior Astronomers - That's Why

The first time I heard "That's Why" by Junior Astronomers I thought it was a track from an old Cribs album. Seriously. So it was a bit of a surprise to find out that it's a new track from a band from North Carolina. They've got a few EPs, a few singles, and a previous record, 2013's Dead Nostalgia, which is quite good. Lots of raw, old-timey (heh) indie rock edge whilst still being abundantly approachable. It's good stuff. I'm looking forward to hearing a bit more from them when their new album drops later on this spring.

I really like this song and have been waiting for a time to post it. It's ambient chill seems perfect for a Spring Sunday afternoon. I haven't been able to come up with much info about L.A.-based Maxton Stenstrom (aka infinitefreefall) so just sip your iced tea and listen.
