RINSE - Lude Jaw

| Kerri
Wanted it all
Well I want it all
I’m feeling the moods changing more
What’s that all about?
It’s finding the time
To give it a try
I’m hoping that you can change your mind
Or live with a lie

If that what it is
It’s under my skin
I’m watching you run around in love
But not out with him
And I can’t get it right
So I won’t get involved
I can’t be the wall, I hold your hand
That’s where I belong

I accidentally discovered another Australian band (this one shoegazers from Brisbane) that I wish I could see live but they're still too small and unknown to get to me anytime soon. (It's a little comical at this point, when I go to research the band behind the song I like and find out they are from Oz. I swear it's not on purpose, there's just way too many of them to only post when Keith is down under.) Anyway, searching for info on RINSE only links to a neglected Facebook page and a semi-active Twitter account, from which I glean the blokes have moved to England where they have quite a few more gigs than before, so keep grinding boys!

Wildlife Control - Illusion

| Kerri

Illusion is part one of the Particles trilogy, the latest passion project from Wildlife Control, techy brothers who base their occasional music endeavors on what they're learning and exploring. The full twelve minute album (and video, released together as they were made together) is pleasant and interesting, without being too thrilling for a Sunday eve.

Camp Cope - Done

| Keith
It was the hardest ground that I had ever walked on
And just like everybody I kept on walking on
There was a man in the park and he was lying down
Oh, he could have been dead
Oh, he could have been dead
But just like everybody I kept on walking on
Pretend not to notice the body on the lawn
I could have gone that way I had gone
And just like everybody he could've kept on walking on
Walking on
He could have kept on walking on
And I thought to myself ‘hey there was probably something I should have done'

You might notice if you're paying close attention, that there are a preponderance of Austrailian artists showing up here. That's not at all intentional, I swear. It's got nothing to do with my semi-frequent trips to Sydney, it's just a solid coincidence. And a good one when you consider today's Most Important Song.

"Done" from Melbourne's Camp Cope blends sharp vocals & lyrics, a killer bassline, and some catchy indie guitar notes into something instantly charming. And similar in vein to other recent TMIS artists like Waxahatchee and Slingshot Dakota. You'll find more of the same on their self-titled debut. Good stuff. "Lost (Season One)" is especially rad.

People the Kangaroo - You Would Not Believe Me

| Kerri

Come on, tonight
We can spice things up all right
You know it might be fun
Somehow she agreed
She called her friend and that was it
We spent the night all whoring*
And whoring* again

You would not believe me
I never felt this way
(Oh yeah)
Had you been a witness
You should've seen my face

Next day I woke up
I looked around they both were gone
Right next to me I found a note
It said
Goodbye my love
I just realized I'm not into boys
Something inside me was calling
And calling again

A Chilean, an Argentinian, and a Frenchman walk into a bar... No, it's not at the Olympics - they're the members of this band. Ironically, aside from liking the sound, I picked this song because the band name reminds me of Australia, where Keith is residing for another week, (and then I discovered they weren't from there). Anyway, the lyrics to this are either hilarious or douchey, I'm not sure what I can safely infer from their cultural hodgepodge, or how much just depends on my mood.
*One website writes that the night was spent "hollering" - listen and decide for yourself. And, either way, have a fun weekend!

Black Cab - Uniforms

| Kerri
All talking and no action
And we need some kind of distraction
And they’re wearing the same uniform
And accidents will happen
(will happen)
(they will happen)

And the boys can boys can
And the girls can girls can too
And the boys can boys can
And the girls can have it all
And the boys can boys can
And the girls can…

A few weeks ago, Keith shared this song with me and it was immediate YES. Those keyboards, that voice, isn't it hard to believe this is not another 80's throwback?? But nope, it's the latest single from (another) little-known Melbourne band, Black Cab. (Although something about their sound - or is it their name? - reminds me of the Oregonian group Small Black.) Also noticing, is it just me or are there are an inordinate number of Australian bands featured on this blog? I've got to get myself down there someday. (Wish it was right now.)

Total aside but last night I watched the most recent film from Irish writer/director John Carney, Sing Street. It's a sweet, forming-a-band, coming-of-age story set in Dublin in 1985. Anyhow, there is an original song in the movie that has a chorus similar to this one but I wouldn't have made the connection if I hadn't basically listened to the songs back-to-back.

Anyhow, as the Olympics are going full steam in Rio right now, I thought I'd also share this Black Cab video, you'll see why (also note the album "Victorious" comes from is titled Games Of The XXI Olympiad).
