Keith introduced me to Chairlift when he added "Crying in Public" to his fav new releases list, back in January. We both dig their sound, so we made an effort to see them at this year's SXSW. The duo did a beautifully theatric job performing to the packed club. Fun fact: the band started out making music for haunted houses!

This song makes me laugh, makes me dance, makes me HAPPY. I'm super excited to see Saint Motel at ACL this fall, but even more excited that Keith is back tonight after a week away from me. (And it's his BIRTHDAY.)

Vampire Weekend - Giving Up the Gun

I've been a fan of Vampire Weekend since they hit my ears about eight years ago, such fun sounds and witty lyrics, but I've never seen them live. So I was really disappointed when I read in January that Rostam Batmanglij was leaving the band. And then really happy to read (in February) that the band is basically still together (with Batmanlij as a collaborator), and starting work on a new album.

I picked this song to share today because another artist I appreciate, Christina Grimme, was shot and killed last night after a show in Florida and I really wish that the US Congress would emulate Australian Parliament to enact and enforce strict gun control laws. It won't happen anytime soon, but maybe more of us regular citizens can simply stop supporting the NRA and start giving up the gun.

ETA: So sad, and sadly ironic, the deadliest mass shooting America has had happened a few hours after this post went live. Oh humanity, please stop.

Love, love this song. It has a gorgeous, swirly, emotional sound that I recognize from all-time favorites of my youth, like by The Cure and U2, which also caused me to listen obsessively to The National and Bastille in 2013-14. I hope to catch The Boxer Rebellion's show at The Parish this November.

Here's a fun track to get you ready for summer. It's from Bleached, who I saw serindipitously at SXSW this year. I remember really enjoying their show, but didn't really think of them until I heard this glam-pop anthem the a little while back. It's been stuck in my head off and on ever since.
