The Pack a.d. - Dollhouse

| Keith
It's magical
Ahh, for sure
Illogical
No sense
Ambivalence
I don't know

If you're looking for a groovy week, "Dollhouse" from blue rockers The Pack a.d. makes for a great song to kick things off. The Pack a.d. is a female duo from Vancouver with a sound heavily influenced by bands like The White Stripes and Band of Skulls. Their new album also titled Dollhouse is out soon.

RIYL: The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Band of Skulls, Wolfmother, The Dead Weather

Bully - Kills to Be Resistant

| Keith
When I’m around you
I try to keep my distance
‘Cause what I want with you
Is none of your business

Bully rocks and Alicia Bognanno reminds me quite a bit of Carrie Akre, who is one of my favorite rock vocalists of all time. Their new album, Losing, comes out later this month and if "Kills to Be Resistant" is any indication, it's going to be a classic.

RIYL: Cayetana, Slothrust, Hammerbox, White Lung, Ume

She says that living with me is bringing her down
I know this shit that I'm on is bumming me out
I don't wanna try I wanna figure it out
Cause I know that living with me is bringing me down

"She don't know about [together] PANGEA" ~ Brain

I didn't either, until about a week ago. "Better Find Out", a terrific, and in this case, appropriately titled, track, showed up in one of the many playlists I follow and I earmarked them for a listen. (Get it?) Anyhoo, I've given their latest, Bulls And Roosters, a couple spins and it's a damn fine album. The back catalog has some diamonds as well. They've got a fairly unique sound; garage rock, but put in a blender and mixed up with...the kitchen sink and refrigerator too. They remind me of some of my favorite Canadian indie bands: Sloan and Library Voices, but with a bit more Cali.

RIYL: Sloan, White Reaper, FIDLAR, The Coathangers, Wavves

Fake Palms - Glass Walls

I'm not sure all the things you think you did
Can you prescribe me pills or medicine?

Canadian noise poppers Fake Palms' album Pure Mind is out today and it's a gleaming example of polished, lo-fi pop/rock. The first single "Glass Walls" doesn't capture the breadth of the full LP, which is fairly eclectic, but it'll give you a great taste of what's in store. And it's tasty.

RIYL: Camp Cope, Preoccupations, Parquet Courts, A Place To Bury Strangers

Jeff Rosenstock - Pash Rash

| Keith
I've been doing this for half my years;
I've been mouthing off in bars, trading shame for self-respect
My trajectory is crystal clear
I can see it in the stars that frame the shame above my neck
And the sky is always pitch black
When I sneak away, I only wanna come back and see your face, see your face again

Long Island's Jeff Rosenstock's 2016 album Worry is a beautiful garage-pop tribute to dorm rooms, DIY, breakups and a staggering variety of musical styles. "Pash Rash" is quick anthemic rock and perfect to pick you up as we close out the week and head into the weekend. The video is also a lot of fun.

RIYL: Fake Problems, Cayetana, Ted Leo, Signals Midwest
