Sia - Clap Your Hands

| Kerri
I've been neglecting the good things
What I mean is I need the good things
I'm finding the light in the good things
I might need help to see the good things

Shake me out of my misery
Make me get out and wiggle it
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Turn the lights on my nights this is life and we only get one chance
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Come on dance, take a chance on romance, we only get one shot at love

Released in 2010, this groovy-bassed, melancholic dance track was not one of Sia's biggest hits (although NME thought so before her last record came out), doing the best in her native Australia by breaking the top 20. Anyway, I love it and have listened to it often when I needed to cheer up, or wanted someone to commiserate with me as I prepped to go out, haha. So... maybe this isn't super-duper-happy-feel-good, but it is about wanting to feel that way, and doing what you can to feel that way. And her carpool karaoke with James Corden (from earlier this year) will make you feel that way!

P.S. Keith has a story about meeting Sia after an intimate SXSW show many years ago. Maybe he'll chime in and share it. Or not. :)

The Naked and Famous - Higher

| Kerri
But we can seperate
To form these hearts in stone
Rewrite this pain we own
Caught here in the wake
Nothing but genuine
Built on a skeleton
Of fractured parts
That only raise our voices
Higher, higher

The first new music from T/N/A/F in years! Co-bandleaders Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith ended their 8-yr relationship during the interim, making this (forthcoming) album and tour a bit of a Fleetwood Mac situation, or perhaps No Doubt is a closer comparison. Either way, this track sounds more like their first album than their last and that's a good thing to my ears.
I last saw T/N/A/F on tour with Imagine Dragons 3 years ago. They were able to fill the stadium with their passionate synth sound then, so I'm excited to see how their outdoor set goes at ACL this fall, and how many new songs we'll get to hear in advance of the full album release.

Joywave - You (Destruction Remix)

I've been creepin' round and saw a little thing I didn't like you tried to hide
I've been creepin' round and saw a little thing I didn't like you tried to hide, from me

I'm DJing Prom tonight here in Palm Springs at Y&YY and I wanted to add some modern flavor to my usual set of 80's club tunes. After auditioning a few different artists I decided that Joywave would a good fit. I first saw them at SXSW, opening up for The Mowgli's. You might not hear it when listening to "You" but they were a great, high energy fit for that show. Joywave has a fairly diverse sound, but most of their songs fit in what I'd call "dance-y rock". Their latest release Swish, which isn't a real album, more like a bunch of remixes of "Destruction" tied together in a sort of fun, inventive way, (why be credible when you can be incredible?) showcases their mastery of fun dance rythim and beats. If you like what you're hearing I highly suggest and recommend listening to their last "real" album How Do You Feel Now?

Kungs "vs." Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl

His presents don't really come for free
Your paychecks don't mean that much to me
Just take my hand and hold me tight
You'll never buy my love!
You buy me this and you buy me that
To win over! Win me over!
You got me wrong and thats a fact
Somethin' that you've got to love, this...

Closing out collab week with this groovy song created by a young French electronic producer working with an R&B/Jazz band out of Melbourne. Perfect for the Sunday night of a summer on a 3-day weekend: whether you want to wind it down on a positive note or start your Independence Day party early, This Girl works.

Chvrches feat. Haley Williams - Bury It

| Kerri
Cover up, cover up
Cover up that you're ruthless
Nobody, nobody
Nobody's ever gonna notice
And I am catching up
And I am seeing red
How about I prove I'm right
And raise it overhead?

I wanted to keep on dancing this weekend, and keep on theme-ish. It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between Lauren's voice and Hayley's, and nothing remotely associated with rap, but I'm in charge here (sorta) so I'm saying it counts! This version of the song came out just a couple weeks ago, though the non-Hayley version was on Chvrches 2015 album Every Eye Open, and the danciest track from that album is probably "Clearest Blue." Check out the video below to see Lauren wearing some plated armor, and a bit of a dance party at the end.
