Future Islands - Ran

| Keith
Ingest, where it goes
Nobody sees but me
So perfect and so sweet
But the rest feels incomplete
Oh like the rabbit's foot I keep
In the locket with no key

I'm really digging "Ran", the latest single from Future Islands. It's was one of those "instantly hooked" tracks. Now, I'm a big fan of Future Islands and, I think mostly due to Samuel Herring's unique vocal stylings, but also because they've taken some of the musical tropes from the more obscure 80's bands—think Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Visage and the like—and polished that sound up for a more modern feel. Anyway, it's always cool to hear new music from a band you're into and just get it right away. I'm excited for their new album, The Far Field, to arrive.

Hannah Georgas - Crazy Shit

| Kerri

Last night was pretty fucked up right?
I don't even know why we even did that
I should keep my pretty mouth shut
Cause every time I do that it always end bad, oh, oh

He said some things, I can hold you too
So if you tell on me, I'm gonna tell on you
And we'll forget, I'll let it slip right by
But you and I are devils in the night, oh, oh

Yeah, there's just something about you
When I'm around you
You make me wanna do crazy shit
Yeah, there's just something about you
When I'm around you
You make me wanna do crazy shit

I swear upon my grave
It's your fault I misbehave
But you've got that, that look in your eye
That makes me feel so alive

Continuing a bit of a theme for the weekend: ladies not standing up for themselves. Canadian singer Hannah Georgas named and dedicated the album (from which this song was pulled) to her 100 year old grandmother and the strength that comes from just living, the change and growth and hard lessons that are inevitable. So I think I'll fret a little less about Hannah than I did over the ladies of MUNA.

MUNA - Crying On The Bathroom Floor

| Kerri
Give me that diamond ring
Give me that love on the movie screen
And I won't feel a thing
Promise I won't feel a thing
Give me that kiss goodnight
Give me that gold, tell me it's alright
And I won't feel a thing
Promise I won't feel a thing

And I guess that I got rewired
'Cause you're cold as ice but it feels like fire, fire, fire, fire
And the drugs don't work and I don't know why
But when you hurt me I go higher, higher, higher, higher

But when I'm crying on the bathroom floor
Tearing off the dress I wore, I wonder
If I could never ask for more
If I'm never gonna ask for more from a lover
Crying on the bathroom floor
Tearing off the dress I wore, I wonder
If I could never ask for more
If I'm never gonna ask for more from a lover

Give me your disrespect
Give me your pain and loneliness
And I'll love you the best
Promise I'll love you the best
Give me no peace of mind
Give me distress, give me all your lies
And I'll love you for life
Promise I'll love you 'til I die

Keith probably should have done the write-up on this, as I think he told me he's seen MUNA live before, but he recognized they are more "my style" and "gave" this song to me. Thanks, babe! I do like this song a hell of a lot, but the lyrics make me feel panicky-sad. Public Service Announcement: PLEASE, girls/all people out there, don't do this! Don't sell yourselves short. Work on your shit so you don't end up so desperately co-dependent. I PROMISE that there is better love, a better life.

IDLES - Meydei

| Keith
I love it how you love me so
Then you come and take my culture and go
I'll never tell you what I know
I'll never tell you what I know
What I fear, what I fear, what I fear

Take a little bit of Foals, a little bit of Art Brut, a little bit of Black Flag, a little bit of U2 (ha, yep), a little bit of Sex Pistols and a little bit of The Murder City Devils, mix it all up in a blender and you get crazyand the UK punk band IDLES. My brother introduced them to me this past weekend, saying that he'd been listening to their limited catalog all day long. I did the same earlier this week and it was a good, interesting, time.

Shout Out Louds - Illusions

| Keith
A heart is what a heart is
It won't forget where it came from
And when I walked down the line
I'm walking with you
I give what I can give
Enough should be enough
And at the end of the line I know
I'll still be with you

Just a guess, but I think most people know Sweden's Shout Out Louds for their Cure-inspired "Tonight I Have To Leave It", which is great and probably as close as you're going to get to Robert Smith style vocals without getting his makeup all over your clothes. Ha. But, anyway, it's good, but they've got many other great tracks and albums, like my favorite, 2013's Optica, which features today's Most Important, "Illusions". It's a fantastic, dancey indie pop anthem and, if you've not heard it, consider yourself in for a treat.
