Perfume Genius - Slip Away

| Keith
Don't hold back, I want to break free
'Cause it's singing through your body
And I'm carried by the sound
Every drum, every single beat
They were born from your body
And I'm carried by the sound

Mike Hadreas, AKA Perfume Genius has hit on something fairly epic with his latest single "Slip Away". Electric piano glam rock isn't really my go to, but I'm really digging this. His album No Shape is more of the same and an interesting and uplifting listen.

Miami Horror - Leila

| Kerri

I just can’t believe it, you left me here alone
When you coming back now?
Looking in the mirror for all I used to know
I just can’t believe it

Leila, why did you leave again?
Stay home
Leila, can you believe again?
Stay home

Perhaps I'm showing really poor taste, but I've had this track on my "maybe post to TMIS" list for a while and with Hurricane Irma headed to Miami now, after destroying a couple of Caribbean Islands (at least), it's definitely a horror story. This song, in contrast, is total ArtPop fun, meant to relax and enliven (sad/stressful lyrics aside), coming at us from Melbourne. Hoping that all of Florida makes it through this storm better than Texas did a week ago. And for all of us, let's keep our chins up and find a reason to smile. Miami Horror put their video budget for their latest EP into art projects instead - like murals and an art car. Watching the car drive around parts of Australia makes me smile! King Nun - Sponge

| Keith
I test myself, and wind up testing you
I'm sure you hate how I test you like I do
Drop me down so I can stand on my own like a sponge standing there soaking up every passing word

I don't know much about quirky rockers King Nun. They've got kind of a rattling grungy pop, almost Manchester in the 90's, sound going. I'd be willing to bet they're a blast live. A handful of their songs are available to listen to on Spotify and they're all solid.

RIYL: Wire, Primal Scream, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellis

Wyatt Blair - Young Hearts Unite

| Keith
And I take it easy
Tonight
Young hearts unite

Most of Wyatt Blair's music sounds like 80's movie soundtrack rock. Think Rick Springfield and "Jessie's Girl" with a touch more glam and you'll get there. His 2016 album Point of No Return is a hoot, and perfect for an end-of-summer afternoon.

RIYL: Rick Springfield, The Darkness, Ty Segall, JEFF The Brotherhood, Jay Reatard

Arcade Fire - Electric Blue

| Kerri
A thousand girls that look like me
Staring out at the open sea
Repeat the words until they're true
Cover my eyes electric blue

Now I can't get my head around it
I thought I found it
But I found out I don't know shit
Now I can't get my head around it
I thought I found it
But I found out

This eclectic 7-member band out of Canada have been alternative music darlings for years now. For me, their songs are hit & miss - perhaps because of my mood as much as because of arrangement. The band plays guitar, drums, bass guitar, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard, synthesizer, French horn, accordion, harp, mandolin, and hurdy-gurdy; the multi-instrumentalist band members switch duties throughout shows while touring. I do think that I would absolutely love them live. But regardless, there's something a little bit more alluring in their recent recorded release, and this is my favorite of the new crop.

RIYL: LCD Soundsystem, Electric Light Orchestra, Kings of Leon, Yeasayer
