Tristen - Glass Jar

| Keith
I don’t have to say goodbye
You don’t get to see me cry
You put me in a glass jar and tap, tap, tap to see how I move

I saw Tristen a while back at SXSW at was intrigued. "Eager For Your Love", an engaging and beautiful song off her 2011 album Charlatans At the Garden Gate, quickly worked its way into my heavy rotation and I became a fan. "Glass Jar", her latest, featuring Jenny Lewis, is a song in the same vein. It's engaging, beautiful and perfect for a Sunday morning.

Mutemath - Hit Parade

| Keith
Here's a final straw to take a stride
In a right direction
I can hardly see the sky
Covering this lonely path
Nothing's built to last
I can almost say that I want you back
But I won't, no I won't, I won't
Sun, come on around

If I've got one criticism of Mutemath is that they can feel a bit too polished. Don't get me wrong, I like the sophistication and quality they put into their work, and that's clear on their latest release "Hit Parade" but I wish they were able to capture the energy of their live shows a bit better in their recordings. Speaking of live shows, I'm excited to catch them at this year's ACL festival.

Manchester Orchestra - The Gold

| Keith
Couldn't really love you any more
You've become my ceiling
I don't think I love you anymore
That gold mine changed you
You don't have to hold me anymore
Our cave's collapsing
I don't wanna be me anymore
My old man told me

Manchester Orchestra, out of the ATL, has been putting out interesting and endearing music for around ten years now, exploring a variety of styles along the way. Their new single "The Gold" is excellent and captures all that they do best with thoughtful songwriting and beautiful arrangement. Looks like they're on tour and coming to Austin soon, and that's exciting. I saw them way back, opening for Brand New in Seattle, and the memory of them rocking "Where Have You Been?" is one of my live show favs.

Castlecomer - If I Could Be Like You

| Kerri

You took me out that night, the colours were so bright
The savages might bite if you will not do
I tried to hold your hand, and carry out your plan
But I was not your man, so there was no deal

Once again I change my tune
Always do it just for you
Double down and chase my youth
If I just watch you I could be like...

Youuuu ~
Love, love, love, like
Youuuu ~
Love... If I could be like you

Last time I posted Castlecomer, it was the early single for their first EP, All of the Noise ("an ode to the power of women"), since released, and now this is a post-EP single from earlier this year. They have also since came to SXSW and I was sooooo disappointed to miss them. Recently the Sidneysider lads finished a second tour of Australia, and have announced more music is "coming soon."

Mt. Eddy - Metaphor

| Keith
We should be laughing now
You're trying to show me how
You're sitting next to me but
In my head this sounds crazy but

Move over little closer than before, and
Fingers touch near your wrist, it's a metaphor
Shoes off and your socks laying on the floor
I don't wanna be the one to say goodnight first

It's a couple days after my birthday and I'm back to working on a pile of work. It'd be rougher, but I've got some great memories of an awesome weekend (thanks to Kerri) and I've got a pile of fun, jangly music from Mt. Eddy, a very young band I know very little about. Which is awesome, one of my favorite things in life is discovering new music. Mt. Eddy's new album, Chroma, is sharp, catchy and likely to induce a whole lot of head nodding.
