Franky Flowers - Corpse

| Keith
Don't watch the people you love grow old
Just watch the people you hate grow cold
Don't watch the people you love grow old
Just watch the people you hate grow cold

I couldn't find much on Franky Flowers, but I can tell you a few things; they're young, from LA and remind me a whole lot of Built to Spill in their early years. In other words, they're fun, kinda quirky, with a guitar-driven sound that caught my attention right away. Looking forward to hearing more from them.

Diet Cig - Harvard

| Keith
Does it feel better
To be in an Ivy League sweater?
Put your work shoes on
And talk about her at your shitty job
Does it feel better
In that cold Boston weather?

Diet Cig was one of the more entertaining acts we saw at SXSW this year. It's fun, clever pop with a bit of a hilarious edge. And live? Well I don't think I've seen two people have as much fun on stage since the last time I saw Matt & Kim. Here's a taste:

The Coathangers - Make It Right

| Keith
Take it back baby
Yeah you want to survive
Your messin' up baby
Now it's makin' you mad
Stayin' out late
Do whatever you like
I really didn't bet you don't go out tonight
Oh, you couldn't take the pressure
To get out of your head
Beat it back baby
Put the kids to bed

In trying to think of what we should play on the Fourth of July, Kerri and I talked through a number of scenarios that involved either the massively popular (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, etc.) or recognizably American (Bruce Springsteen, etc.) Well, I've got the keyboard and I'm going in a different, yet no less American, direction with a killer, all-female garage band out of ATL: The Coathangers. Ready to get dirty and "Make It Right" this fourth? Listen on.

(Haha, while searching for the lyrics to "Make It Right" the first thing that showed up on the search-ahead was "make America great again". I think my search is much better, and more accurate for how I'm feeling about this holiday.)

Lemolo - Hold Light

| Keith
Hanging on what the radio says
Standing tall but it's my knees that bend
Never wrong, never stick out your neck
Looking strong but your hard to defend

How about some cosmic chill out this Sunday, eh? Lemolo, a recent discovery for me, reminds be quite a bit of two of my favorites, Eisley and First Aid Kit, and "Hold Light" is a perfect song to help you wind down your weekend.

Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better

| Kerri
I was doing fine without ya
'Til I saw your face, now I can't erase
Giving in to all his bullshit
Is this what you want, is this who you are?
I was doing fine without ya
'Til I saw your eyes turn away from mine
Oh, sweet darling, where he wants you
Said, "Come on Superman, say your stupid line"

A few months ago, I was frankly obsessed with the final track "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" from the most recent Tame Impala album which includes "The Less I Know The Better." It is a more hopeful story than this one (bonus: it's featured in the trailers for the upcoming FX show Atlanta, AND Rihanna covered it perfectly on her new album Anti). Anyhoo, Kevin Parker (the singer/songwriter/producer) says this one (LIKTB) belongs on their album the least because it is too "dorky white disco funk" but that's probably what's made it the most popular on Spotify. That or how strongly people identify with a story of unrequited love.
