Professor Murder - Free Stress Test

| Keith
You're livin' your life and you're down for the fight
and it's wrong or it's right, and you're aware of your might
You're flyin' that kite and you're shinin' that night
Yeah you're shinin' that night, yeah you're shinin' and
you try but stop it[6x]
You try, try, try

It's the weekend and the most important thing right now is dancing. Kerri and I got it started off right last night (Sobscene FTW) but I felt like it'd be cool to keep it going. Let's go back, not too far back, to 2006 with the mysterious Professor Murder. They're a really fun and funky outfit from NYC who bring great beats, a fun attitude and a creepy name to the dancefloor.  Their album, Professor Murder Rides The Subway, is a hoot and perfect for a pre-dance-dance party.

Glass Animals - Life Itself

| Keith
Come back down to my knees
Gotta get back, gotta get free
Come back down to my knees
Be like them, lean back and breathe
Come back down to my knees
Gotta get back, gotta get free
Come back down to my knees
Be like them, lean back and breathe

Glass Animals exploded (heh) on the scene with the quirky, summer groove showcase "Gooey", a song that, admittedly, I could never really get into. It was clear there was something unique there, I just wasn't sure what it was. I did like it enough to be intrigued when I found out that the next record of the month from Vinyl Me Please was going to be their latest, How To Be A Human Being.

I've just been able to give it a listen. It's awesome and pretty much what you'd expect: funky grooves, a lot of catchy quirkiness and some serious soulful polish. I'm expecting it will be in heavy rotation for a bit. It was a bit hard to pick a Most Important Song to share with y'all, so I went with the first song one the album, "Life Itself". Enjoy.

People the Kangaroo - You Would Not Believe Me

| Kerri

Come on, tonight
We can spice things up all right
You know it might be fun
Somehow she agreed
She called her friend and that was it
We spent the night all whoring*
And whoring* again

You would not believe me
I never felt this way
(Oh yeah)
Had you been a witness
You should've seen my face

Next day I woke up
I looked around they both were gone
Right next to me I found a note
It said
Goodbye my love
I just realized I'm not into boys
Something inside me was calling
And calling again

A Chilean, an Argentinian, and a Frenchman walk into a bar... No, it's not at the Olympics - they're the members of this band. Ironically, aside from liking the sound, I picked this song because the band name reminds me of Australia, where Keith is residing for another week, (and then I discovered they weren't from there). Anyway, the lyrics to this are either hilarious or douchey, I'm not sure what I can safely infer from their cultural hodgepodge, or how much just depends on my mood.
*One website writes that the night was spent "hollering" - listen and decide for yourself. And, either way, have a fun weekend!

Vacationer - Good As New

| Keith
I've got a good friend living it up when I'm home
Yea I've got someone waiting for me when I'm gone
Yeah I have got a good one lifting me up when I'm down
Well it's been perfect time and new moon rising
You are looking to,
I'm feeling good as new, new
Feeling good as new, new

So Kerri has declared this feel good week huh? Well I'm pretty sure the dreamy, emo, summer-pop of Vacationer fits the bill. This is dance-in-your-seat-go-for-a-summer-drive music if I've every heard it.

Sia - Clap Your Hands

| Kerri
I've been neglecting the good things
What I mean is I need the good things
I'm finding the light in the good things
I might need help to see the good things

Shake me out of my misery
Make me get out and wiggle it
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Turn the lights on my nights this is life and we only get one chance
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Come on dance, take a chance on romance, we only get one shot at love

Released in 2010, this groovy-bassed, melancholic dance track was not one of Sia's biggest hits (although NME thought so before her last record came out), doing the best in her native Australia by breaking the top 20. Anyway, I love it and have listened to it often when I needed to cheer up, or wanted someone to commiserate with me as I prepped to go out, haha. So... maybe this isn't super-duper-happy-feel-good, but it is about wanting to feel that way, and doing what you can to feel that way. And her carpool karaoke with James Corden (from earlier this year) will make you feel that way!

P.S. Keith has a story about meeting Sia after an intimate SXSW show many years ago. Maybe he'll chime in and share it. Or not. :)
